What would happen if we didn’t get caught up in the hype surrounding the economy or whether one political party or the other will save us from ourselves? I guess my question is this: does a weakened dollar or oil crunch cause a recession or does the fear of a recession cause a recession?
Remember after Katrina when everyone was filling up their cars and anything that could hold gas, just in case we ran out? And because of that some stations did run out of gas. But if people had used common sense and not run on fear everything would have certainly worked out smoother. It seems that we, and maybe just me, do things sometimes because we are scared and not because it is the smart thing, or even the sane thing to do.
It appears God knows us pretty well, doesn’t he? 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God did not give us a spirit of fear; but of power, of love, and of sound mind.” It’s clear we have a tendency to get caught up in the moment and lose focus of the big picture.
We were all created for a reason and we have a destiny and a purpose. Things are going to be difficult at times. There will be sadness, and there will be joy. I just hope that I can keep my focus on what truly is important, and it isn’t the circumstance, it is the One who sees us through it.
